"We wanted a really exotic locale for our fashion stories this issue(page 452 and 462), so we went all the way to beautiful, unspoiled Costa Rica in Central America, a country bordered by the caribbean on one side and the North Pacific Ocean on the other, and well-known for its beatiful beaches, lush vegetation and azure waters. For six amazing days we made the Si Como No Hotel oue home.
The animals that populate the jungles around the hotel- like spider monkeys and capuchin monkeys- watched us with with-eyed curiosity. The local rain forest is also home to sloths, butterflies and iguanas. A big thank you goes out to Hotel Si Como No, who solved every production problem."

EXPOTUR 2002
Costa Rica looks long term "Sustainable development" was the phrase of the day at the 2002 Expotur conference in San Jose, touted by everyone from the newly-elected president,Abel Pacheco, to the hundreds of buyers and sellers gathered for the event. A member of the Small Distinctive Hotels of Costa Rica, Si Como No has quietly turned its small corner of Manuel Antonio
National Park into a taste of natural luxury. Now, the 39 -room boutique property is adding Spa by Serenity, which will offer experiences that capitalize on Costa Rica's instrinsic charm. "Jim (Damalas)... designed a hotel that would preserve the land he loved, using recycling and energy-saving techniques. Naturally, he called it
Si Como No. It's set above virgin forest with views of offshore islands. Only one mature tree was felled in the construction (the rest still grow up through the hotels and a waterfall tumbles down through the gardens)."
Vogue Magazine - February 1998
We follow a stream down the hill as it meanders through the quaint rooms and cottages and finally cascades over a ledge into the pool. There is a natural diving platform next to the waterfall. It’s not the cliffs at Acapulco, but it is a point from which everyone can play Tarzan safely for a moment . I wait for a group of kids to make their collective leap and follow them into the pool. I surface and enjoy the cleansing moment, then swim toward the submerged bar stools, where I climb up and order a very large margarita on the rocks. The bartenders, all Ticos, (Costa Ricans) are young, friendly, and speak American, not english. It does not take me long to learn that they have all gone to school in the States and have come back home because they love their country. "Now he (Jim) is the proprietor of the thriving world-class hotel..."
