In a previous post, Lorraine shared a story about meeting artists for Regálame Art Gallery. Finding talent to share with our customers is truly a rewarding experience, and I am sure we will have more stories to tell you about.
Other than the process of finding artists, one of the things that I like most about working at the gallery, is the opportunity it gives me to meet wonderful people, and learn about their lives and philosophy. I will always remember the story Jaime Koss, told my daughter when she was transitioning between high school and college.
“I have no idea what I want to do in life, I am confused” said my daughter.
“Don’t worry so much about it” he said “Imagine that your life is like a train. Every new experience or challenge is a wagon you add to it. The train goes on, just like your life. The point is to continue the journey without losing your wagons”. We both listened carefully.
“Do you want to study nutrition? That’s a wagon you are adding. Go to school, get your degree. Did you like it? Now you can work, that’s another wagon you will add. Did you not like it? You can learn something new, but your nutrition wagon will be attached forever to your train of life, and it will somehow help you in your journey”.
It has been more than 10 years since we had this conversation with Mr. Koss at my office in Manuel Antonio. As I stare at one of the warm-colored, music- and women-inspired oil canvas we hold in the gallery, I remember our conversation. My daughter has truly added some wagons to her train, and so have I!
