Help Us Preserve the Magic CONSERVE ENERGY Window and ceiling insulation increase energy-efficient air conditioning systems that were installed to conserve electricity. A significant portion of the hotel water supply is heated with solar energy. In-room cards remind our guests and employees to help support these conservation efforts. Using air conditioning with doors or windows opened won't cool the jungle or your room. Setting the thermostat too low wastes power and creates condensation. Please only use your A/C if truly needed. The recommended temp setting is 22 centigrade or 72 Fahrenheit. Turning the lights off when leaving your room also makes a big difference, as does shorter showers. When we all participate in conservation, a little individual effort goes a long way. RESPECT NATURE We ask that you do not remove any flora or fauna from the property or nature trails. Please do not feed the animals that may visit during your stay. We try to keep noise to minimum, especially after sunset around the adult pool (Min. age is 18), helping to provide a quiet and peaceful environment for "siestas". The family pool slide closes promptly at 8:00 PM! in the same effort to maintain the tranquility at sunset hour. REDUCE WATER USAGE AND CONTAMINATION If you do not want bed linens to be changed, please place the card provided on your bed in the morning. A towel on the floor means that you would like a fresh towel. Remember that your shower is equipped with a water saver head which helps reduce water consumption. Well water is used to irrigate our gardens in the summer, and indigenous landscaping helps reduce water demand. We provide organic shampoos and soaps in each of our hotel rooms. We encourage their usage along with our organic laundry products to protect the environment. RECYCLE We recycle glass, plastic and aluminum cans. Please leave these items in the wet bar or kitchen sink for collection or in the larger containers next to the Regalame Gift Shop. We use our fruit and vegetable waste for compost to fertilize the hotel gardens. Meat, fish and poultry scraps are collected daily for the local pig farm. To further our conservation efforts, we have created a new 30 acre Wildlife Refuge located directly across from the Hotel. Fincas Naturales (The Nature Farm Refuge), features a multi-level Butterfly Botanical Garden, an outdoor digital sorround sound system for multi-media presentations, and user friendly nature walk interpreted by qualified naturalists. The most unique butterfly garden in Costa Rica! Printed room materials include a Wildlife Check List, Flora and Fauna plus Butterfly Catalogues, a hotel information book with conservation goals to advise our guest. There are systems that separate the laundry gray waters from the normal sanitation system utilizing biodegrable cleaning products and use bio-digesters to convert solid waste to fertilizer. Also, the organic waste from the kitchens is converted to organic compost through a Japanese method called "Bocashi". The compost is used throughout the hotel's landscaping and butterfly gardens. The property also recycles glass, plastic and aluminum containers through a local recycle program. |
